MTR - Network Trace

Support

Help with live traceroutes, hop statistics, AS/BGP details, saved targets, and report exports on iPhone and iPad.

Contact support

The best way to report a problem is Settings → Report a Bug inside MTR. The generated message includes the app and system version, but never adds trace targets, IP addresses, hostnames, or trace history automatically.

Why are some hops missing?

Routers are not required to answer diagnostic probes. A route can be working normally even when one or more intermediate hops show no response. MTR continues probing later hops instead of waiting for every missing router.

What does loss on one hop mean?

Some routers limit or deprioritize ICMP replies. Loss on an intermediate hop is most meaningful when it continues through later hops and reaches the destination. A single lossy hop followed by healthy responses does not necessarily indicate forwarded traffic loss.

Why can AS/BGP details say “No data”?

Private and other non-public addresses are intentionally not queried. Public addresses can also lack a usable record in the external IP-to-ASN mapping service. The trace result remains available in either case.

Local network access

iOS may request Local Network permission when you trace a private address or local hostname. MTR uses that permission only for diagnostics you start. You can review it in iOS Settings at any time.
