MTR for iPhone

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Overview

MTR is designed to perform network diagnostics without an account, advertising, analytics SDKs, or a developer-operated backend. The developer does not collect or sell personal data through the app.

Data stored on your device

Saved targets, app settings, and completed trace history are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes this local data unless iOS restores it from a device backup.

Network diagnostics

MTR sends diagnostic probes to the destination you select and to routers on the path to that destination. Hostname resolution and optional reverse DNS use the DNS resolver configured on your device. The operators of the networks and DNS services involved may receive technical information such as IP addresses and query metadata as a normal part of providing those services.

AS/BGP lookups

When you explicitly use the optional AS/BGP lookup feature, the app performs DNS TXT queries against Team Cymru's public IP-to-ASN mapping service. Those queries include public hop IP addresses. Private, link-local, documentation, and other non-public addresses are rejected locally and are not submitted to this service. Team Cymru operates independently and processes requests under its own privacy practices.

Purchases and advertising

MTR is distributed free of charge and contains no in-app purchases, subscriptions, advertising, or analytics SDKs.

Bug reports and support

MTR sends no bug report automatically. If you choose to contact support, your email address, description, and any diagnostics you explicitly include are used only to investigate and respond to your request. Support correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to handle the request and related follow-up.

Your choices

You can delete saved targets and trace history in the app, remove all locally stored app data by deleting the app, avoid optional AS/BGP lookups, and choose what to include in a support email. To ask about or request deletion of support correspondence, contact the developer.
